What is Landrace Cannabis?
Opinions vary, but we are of the opinion that Landrace Cannabis are wild growing cannabis plants in their first known place of origin with no human intervention to the plant or the terrior where it grows, and are self-regenerative via open pollination.
It is also Freestone's opinion that cannabis grown in its native land and cultivated by the local generational farmers, often referred to as heirloom genetics, is also Landrace Cannabis. Just not the same as the wild populations that are now few and far between due to dilution from imported genetics.
This reinforces the need for genetic cataloguing and preservation efforts to avoid further losses of the narrowing spectrum of worldwide cannabis genetics.

STRAIN vs CULTIVAR
While STRAIN is the widely adopted term to describe the numerous varieties of cannabis, the true definition of the word refers to a genetic variety or subtype of microorganism. Such as a bacteria or virus.
A CULTIVAR is a plant that has been produced by selective breeding.
Neither is wrong and we reference both at times.

Much of our early R&D was performed in guerilla grows near wild freestone fishery systems that are fed by rainfall and snowmelt and entirely dependent on the natural water supply. The flows of a freestone river fluctuate constantly and are completely at mercy of mother nature, as were our plants from the 1980's until legalization.
