Specialists in sun-grown outdoor cannabis
Premium SelectionsFIRE IN = FIRE OUT out truly is the best way to describe initial selection criteria. This holds true for landrace strains too.
|
Phenotype HuntingMuch of our phenotype hunt is based around desired climate specific traits, then flavor, potency, and appearance.
|
Strain DevelopmentStrain development ends only when all selection criteria has been met. Any subpar crosses will be abandoned.

Effects of Environment on Plants
Location of where a plant is grown compared to where it was native can sometimes make it seem that they are two completely different cultivars, even though they came from the same parents. Environmental differences can be drastic and affect things such as colour, flavour, resin production, size, and smell. This is a combination of variation between climates and the soil food web.

Why Sun Grown Cannabis?
Sun Grown outdoor is the truest expression of any cannabis plant.
Full term plants grown outdoors in the ground are able to pull the most nutrients possible from their terroir, and this becomes very evident in the end product. Cannabinoid, Flavonoid, and Terpene profiles from these plants can be extremely varied from the indoor grown version of the same plant. This produces a full-spectrum flower with far more health-oriented cannabinoids and a wider range of terpenes. This has long been evidenced by foreign hasish producing countries such as Afghanistan, India, Lebanon, Morocco, Nepal, and Pakistan showing high concentrations of beneficial cannabinoids and unique terpenes.
Indoor cannabis only reaps the benefits of the nutrients that were added by human application, rather than the full soil food web. The vegatation stage is also typically reduced with indoor grows, therefore limiting the duration the plants are pulling those nutrients. The concentrates from indoor plants such as hash, rosin, live resin, etc is nothing close to full-spectrum and largely THC driven due to the lack of available CBD, CBG, CBN, THC-V, and other cannabinoids.

Our primary focus is to breed cannabis cultivars that can thrive in a variety of environments. Being a Canadian cannabis breeder comes with its own challenges relating to the northern outdoor climates experienced throughout most of our vast country. While there are many existing "strains" that can cope with these conditions, it is Freestone Genetics objective to produce the best possible breeds for them. By retracing the building blocks back to landrace strains, we breed the best traits of each phenotype to create elite climate specific breeds.
We strive to breed all our cultivars under the conditions for which they are intended to be grown in, or closely as possible. This means that most are grown and bred outdoors to become a unique "produit-de-terroir" as Frenchy would say.
